CT Technologist Traveler Finds Joy in the Journey
When Quinton B. isn’t at work as a traveling CT technologist, you might spot the seven-time marathoner out for a long run, enjoying the scenery. Or you might bump into him on a visit to an art museum, since he was an art and graphic design major in college.
It’s all part of his philosophy to make the most of his allied health traveler assignments—both personally and professionally. He is adamant about putting patients first, and was recently recognized for his excellent work, receiving the title of AMN Healthcare’s Allied Traveler of the Month for March 2024.
Accolades For This Standout CT Tech Traveler
Quinton has completed eight assignments as a CT technologist traveler with AMN Healthcare’s allied division since taking his first assignment in February of 2020, not long after finishing a stint with the U.S. Army.
His employers can’t get enough of him. “We always receive great feedback about him, and he’s always asked to extend,” wrote recruiter Elena G. in her nomination of this dedicated allied professional.
Elena also praises Quinton for his flexibility and great attitude.
“Quinton has been asked many times to switch shifts, departments, cover both CT/Xray alone on a shift, work 8 days straight, float to a different facility, and he has not once quit an assignment or complained,” she says. “He is always positive and understands that patients should be put first.
”
Relishing The Allied Travel Experience
Allied health travel gives Quinton, who hails from Tallahassee, Florida, the chance to experience new professional challenges, including working with new machines and learning how different facilities operate.
His career as a traveling CT technologist has taken him to
large hospitals
and small ones, in a variety of locales, including Boston (a favorite, both for the running and the cultural opportunities) and New Bedford in M
assachusetts; Santa Rosa, California; T
ampa, Florida; Omaha, Nebraska; and Atlanta and Donalsonville, Georgia.
“I’m really trying to travel around the entire United States,” he says, noting that he travels with his wife, Larissa, who is able to work remotely. “We want to visit each state.”
Quinton never knows w
hat the staffing situation will be at a particular workplace until he gets there. Sometimes he doesn’t even know if he’ll wind up on the day shift or the night shift. But he’s confident in his skills and his ability to contribute, no matter what.
“I go in with an open mind,” he says. “Things may change right when I get there or even right before I get there. So I just stay focused on what they hired me to do. I’m here to help, and I want to help.”
The Road Ahead
Currently, Quinton is on an assignment at Georgetown University Hospital Medstar in Washington, DC. He’s enjoying the chance to see iconic
locations in the nation’s capital during his runs—and the chance to meander through some of the famous museums with Larissa, too.
“We also love going to small, local coffee shops,” says Quinton, adding that he and wife have already found a favorite spot for acai drinks and bowls.
What’s next for Quinton? He’s enjoying the chance to spend time in
Washington DC for now—especially during cherry blossom season. But he’s not sure where his next assignment will take him.
This summer, however, he has already planned to return home to Florida where he will take some extra time off, relax on the beach and spend more time with Larissa. It will be a welcome break before signing on for a new CT travel job for the fall.
In fact, that’s one reason that he enjoys the allied travel lifestyle so much. “It’s the freedom that I have, to be able to spend more time with my family,” he says.
His advice to travelers who would like to follow in his footsteps: “Always push yourself to be the best,” he says. “But stay humble.”
And also, “Be thankful,” he adds.” You can be happy if you are thankful.”
