AMN Healthcare Language Services is proud to announce their Silver Level sponsorship of the 2024 Paving the Way to Health Care Access Conference, an education conference for interpreters taking place on May 31-June 1, 2024. Together with the event organizers, UMass Chan Medical School's MassAHEC Network, MassHealth and ForHealth Consulting, AMN shares a dedication to medical interpreter training and increasing healthcare accessibility.
This two-day educational summit will take place in-person at UMass Boston. Attendance is open to those who have previously attended UMass medical interpreter training programs and others who are directly involved in language interpretation, including:
- Medical interpreters
- Interpreter managers and coordinators
- Members of the health care team working with interpreters
- Interpreters in educational and legal settings
Paving the Way to Health Care Access Conference 2024
Why attend the conference? According to Massachusetts Medical Interpreters, “The Paving the Way to Health Care Access Conference supports the professional goals of interpreters and offers continued education credits.”
The conference theme for 2024 is: "Putting Language Access into Practice."
- CCHI CEUs: CCHI has approved “Paving the Way to Healthcare Conference 2024 – 2 days of Learning for Interpreters”. This program is accredited by CEAP for 9.5 CE hours, CEAP accreditation #10435.
- RID CEUs: “Practitioners may earn up to 0.55 Professional Studies CEUs per day.” All of the workshops are Professional Studies and none of them are PPO. 90 minutes sessions qualify for 0.15 units and 60 minutes sessions qualify for 0.1 units.
Keynote Speakers & Other Highlights
Both Friday’s and Saturday’s programs include notable keynote and endnote speakers.
Friday's keynote speaker will be Elizabeth Jacobs, MD, a physician leader and invesitgator with research building expertise. Jacobs's keynote topic will center around the impact of linguistic access on healthcare access.
Saturday's endnote speaker will be Diana Pagano, the Executive Vice President at Interpreters and Translators, Inc. and inspriational speaker and author. Pagano’s endnote topic will center on medical interpreter mindset, adaptability and empowerment.
In addition to participating in the keynote and endnote sessions and a selection of workshops, attendees will have opportunities to network and meet other medical interpreters and industry professionals in an onsite setting.
The Tony Winsor Award
Every year, the Paving the Way to Health Care Access conference presents the Tony Winsor Award, recognizing a person making a difference in the medical interpreter world.
This year, the recipient is Nina Scott, MSHS, CMI - Spanish, who is the Director of Interpreter Services at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, an instructor and language coach for the Massachusetts Medical Interpreting Training Course.
