Edwards School of Medicine is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader for the role of Vice Dean for Addiction Sciences. This individual will be responsible for leading a team of dedicated professionals, supporting and growing existing staff and programs, and building new community initiatives.The Vice Dean will collaborate closely with the executive leadership of Marshall University, its Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, Marshall Health Network, the City of Huntington, and the division of addiction sciences within the Department of Family and Community Health at the medical school, to integrate addiction science efforts and advance the mission of delivering high-quality addiction treatment, community support, education, and research. This individual will oversee multidisciplinary teams for clinical treatment, promote and support prevention-educational endeavors, organize and lead research initiatives, and will seek and encourage publications and presentations in prestigious venues nationally and internationally.The Ideal CandidateThe successful candidate will be an innovative, agile and collaborative leader with experience in addiction treatment, research, or a related field, with a proven track record of leadership and management. They will be passionate about creating a broad university and community strategy to address the substance use problem through an integrated multidisciplinary approach. This leader will be an advocate for the resolution of substance use issues, providing influence at the state and federal levels to promote awareness and/or solutions. MD, PhD or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant field is required.The OrganizationThe Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine partners with its clinical enterprise, Marshall Health, and its primary hospital partners at Marshall Health Network to fulfill the need for addiction care and treatment across West Virginia and surrounding communities. The Division of Addiction Sciences was established in the Department of Family and Community Health in 2018 with the goal of systemically addressing substance use in the community, West Virginia, across Appalachia, and beyond. The RegionBased in Huntington, West Virginia, Marshall University is situated in an attractive tri-state region bordering Kentucky and Ohio. West Virginia is known as the outdoor recreation capital of the eastern U.S., with easy access from Huntington to skiing and snowboarding, whitewater rafting, camping, zip lining, rock climbing, and mountain biking. The relationship between the university and Huntington is extraordinarily positive and mutually beneficial. Marshall serves as a culture center, while also playing a major role in rural health care delivery, improvement of elementary and secondary education, and regional economic development.
