This system is backed by a comprehensive range of inpatient and community mental health services and plays a vital role within the integrated MaineHealth system.The system is seeking a Chief, MaineHealth Behavioral Health and Chair of Psychiatry at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center to succeed the long-serving incumbent, who will retire in January 2025.The OpportunityThe Chief of MaineHealth Behavioral Health and Chair of Psychiatry at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center position offers a fantastic opportunity for a physician executive with strong relationship-building skills, a proven ability to drive priorities in behavioral healthcare, and a keen interest in advancing educational and research programs within one of the nation’s most innovative and advanced behavioral health systems. The role reports to the Chief Medical and Transformation Officer, who is the most senior physician executive in the MaineHealth system.The Department Chair will oversee and lead the clinical, teaching, and research initiatives of the Department of Psychiatry at Maine Medical Center in Portland. This includes oversight of residency and fellowship training in general and child psychiatry, as well as the academic partnership with Tufts University School of Medicine. The role also encompasses supervision of specialized treatment and research programs, including the Developmental Disorders Program at the Glickman Lauder Center of Excellence.The Chief role is backed by a modern operating model, with support from a new Chief Medical Officer (CMO). This role oversees all clinical operations for Behavioral Health Services, including the 100-bed Spring Harbor Hospital and psychiatric services across the MaineHealth system.The Ideal CandidateThe successful candidate will have successful and progressive leadership experience in a Medical Director, Division Chief, Associate Chair or Chair role gained within a major teaching hospital or academic medical center environment, ideally as part of an integrated delivery system and/or within the context of a larger health system with a strong academic infrastructure. There is a preference for prior direct experience within both inpatient and community mental health settings. This leader should be academically eligible for Associate Professor or Professor faculty appointment at the Tufts University School of Medicine. MD/DO degree or equivalent, and appropriate Board Certification are requirements.  The OrganizationA division of MaineHealth, MaineHealth Behavioral Health was established in 2014 through the merger of several highly respected and well-established behavioral healthcare organizations in Maine. This includes Spring Harbor Hospital, the only nonprofit psychiatric hospital in southern Maine with 100 beds, along with four community mental health agencies. Edwards School of Medicine is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader for the role of Vice Dean for Addiction Sciences. This individual will be responsible for leading a team of dedicated professionals, supporting and growing existing staff and programs, and building new community initiatives.The Vice Dean will collaborate closely with the executive leadership of Marshall University, its Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, Marshall Health Network, the City of Huntington, and the division of addiction sciences within the Department of Family and Community Health at the medical school, to integrate addiction science efforts and advance the mission of delivering high-quality addiction treatment, community support, education, and research.
