Chief Medical OfficerArkansas Children’s Northwest HospitalSpringdale, ARSeeking Chief Medical Officer to join Arkansas Children’s Northwest Hospital in Springdale, Arkansas. This is an exciting opportunity to be the most senior onsite clinical leader at ACNW.The Opportunity:Arkansas Children’s Northwest (ACNW) Hospital announces an exceptional opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and experienced physician leader to serve as the next Chief Medical Officer (CMO). As part of the Arkansas Children’s System, ACNW is experiencing an exciting inflection point. ACNW opened in early 2018 and has recently embarked on an expansion, which will significantly augment both inpatient and operating room capacity. In concert, patient volumes and acuity are both increasing, positioning the next CMO to play a pivotal role in advancing quality, safety, care delivery and operational excellence to optimize current and future capabilities. Based in Northwest Arkansas (Springdale), the CMO will report to the SVP and Chief Administrator, Rustin Morse, MD, MMM, and will serve as a key leadership team member. The CMO will also have a matrixed reporting relationship with the Chief Clinical Officer and Surgeon-in-Chief at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, AR. The CMO is responsible for overseeing and advancing care delivery capabilities. In collaboration with other leaders, the CMO focuses on understanding, addressing, and improving operational processes, to improve quality and safety, but also make it easier to deliver care while simultaneously improving access, throughput, and provider/patient experience. Given the rapid growth of ACNW, the next CMO will have a high degree of business acumen, strong operational and process improvement skills, and significant quality and safety experience. The incoming CMO will be expected to practice clinically in addition to their administrative role. The volume of clinical work will depend on specialty but split of time would be approximately 75% administrative and 25% clinical. The Ideal Candidate:
  • MD, DO, MD/PhD or equivalent is required. 
  • Board certified in pediatrics or a pediatric sub-specialty required. Eligible for licensure in the State of Arkansas.
  • Graduate degree in business, healthcare administration or related field preferred.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality Certification and/or Certified Physician Executive preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years’ of experience as a clinician required.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ of physician leadership experience including strong quality and safety background.
  • Proven track record for advancing and improving both inpatient and outpatient clinical care delivery, access and throughput.
  • Demonstrated experience in executing quality improvement methodologies; and knowledge and/or experience with models for the evaluation of resource use, influencing factors and analysis. 
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing process improvement to maximize clinical efficiency and current usage of physical space. 
  • Ability to be highly collaborative and decisive with a high degree of flexibility and creativity. 
  • Outstanding communication (written and verbal) skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to interact comfortably and work effectively with a wide range of constituents including all providers and leadership within the system. 
  • Ability to deliver clear messages logically and succinctly.
  • Evidence of a strong history of working effectively with physicians to bring about change and innovation needed to achieve strategic objectives. 
  • Strong management skills, including the ability to manage and mentor providers, build organizational capability, and collaborate effectively with peers. 
  • Ideal candidate will have experience in a community hospital as well as experience working as a leader in an academic pediatric hospital or health system.
  • Experience in building and/or growing regional clinical programs in competitive healthcare market is highly preferred.
