This is an exceptional opportunity for a distinguished and visionary leader to drive the research area of the Department of Family Medicine to become the foremost engine of scientific discovery and research career development. The overall goal is the translation and implementation of this scientific discovery to advance health at UTMB.  The Opportunity The inaugural Vice Chair of Research serves as a leader in advancing the research mission of the Department, with particular focus on enhancing the pipeline of researchers and increasing extramural funding. The Vice Chair will be responsible for setting and guiding the research agenda for the Department, leading various research initiatives, and mentoring faculty and resident physicians. Reporting to the Department Chair, Kendall Campbell, MD, the Vice Chair will serve as part of the departmental leadership team along with the Vice Chairs of Education and Clinical Operations.  The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader with a penchant for creative thinking and a proven ability to build and guide teams. Research experience or expertise in the areas of Health Equity, Social Determinants of Health, Diabetes, Obesity, Hypertension, or Behavioral Medicine would be ideal. Experience with clinical trials, quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods study design is preferred, as is extramural funding in a personal program of research. The Vice Chair will have academic credentials for an appointment as an Associate Professor or Full Professor (Tenure Track). MD, DO, MD/PhD or PhD required.  The Organization The Department of Family Medicine has a long-standing history of educating future health professionals while advancing research and clinical services. It boasts a medical education program, family medicine residency, clinical services and research program. Opportunities for research and scholarship are plentiful at UTMB Family Medicine which is a value-added partner in the UTMB research enterprise. UTMB Health is a $2.2 billion health science center comprised of five hospitals, an extensive network of outpatient clinics, and Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions, Public and Population Health, as well as a Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, three institutes and over 10 exceptional research centers. UTMB is part of The University of Texas System and a member of the Texas Medical Center.  The Region Galveston, Texas is known as the "Playground of the South" and is a popular tourist destination, including The Strand, a historical district, and Galveston's historic seawall, which spans over 10 miles and offers beautiful beaches, restaurants, lodging and activities on Seawall Boulevard. Galveston is an island city on the Gulf Coast of Texas and is located about 45 miles southeast of downtown Houston within The Woodlands – Sugar Land metropolitan area of Houston. Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital is actively seeking a highly skilled Chief of Primary Care to join their team in the beautiful city of Brockton, MA!The Position 
  • The Chief of Primary Care will plan, direct, and strategize division operations to achieve clinical excellence by fostering a culture of safety and promoting Relationship-Based Care at Signature Healthcare.
  • Reporting directly to the President of the Medical Group, this leader will provide coaching and development to direct reports including Section Chiefs covering both Adult and Pediatric Practices, Medical Director of OBAT, Medical Director of ACO and Medical Director of Urgent Care. 
  • Works collaboratively in a DYAD model alongside Service Line Leaders such as Quality and Nursing
  • The scope of responsibilities includes Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Office-Based Addiction Treatment, and three Urgent Care centers. This leader is expected to see patients at least 20% of the time.
  • This leader will conduct a comprehensive assessment of current practices to evaluate operations, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. Additionally, they will play a key role in advancing recruitment and retention initiatives. Lastly, they will lead efforts in role development initiatives for APPs.
  • The ideal candidate is a highly organized, collaborative, and strategic leader with a proven ability to hold staff accountable. A strong track record in process improvement and eliminating barriers to staff success is essential.
Requirements 
  • M.D. or D.O., with board certification in Family or Internal Medicine required.
  • Active Massachusetts medical license required.
  • Minimum of five years of active outpatient practice experience, along with at least two years of leadership experience, required.
