Strategically lead a new, free-standing behavioral health hospital and lead a robust psychiatry/psychology department for 4-hospital system with an academic medical center.The OpportunityThis is an exciting opportunity to support MetroHealth’s vision to become the most admired public health system in the nation, renowned for advancing and becoming the national model for health equity and eradicating health disparities, being the community’s choice, driving innovation, and delivering exceptional care and outcomes by delivering clinical and academic excellence and exceptional patient/care team experiences, and sustaining and accelerating growth. The Department of Psychiatry offers robust integrated psychiatry and psychology services to all adult, adolescent, geriatric, and pediatric patients across the system in the areas of inpatient, outpatient, corrections, and addiction services. Fully accredited training programs at MetroHealth include a General Psychiatry Residency Training Program along with Psychology and other training programs. The Psychiatry program is popular and has expanded from 20 to 32 residents. The Chair of the Department of Psychiatry reports to the System EVP, Chief Clinical Officer and is supported by an operational dyad. Faculty appointments are awarded through Case Western University School of Medicine.Additionally, as SVP, Behavioral Health Services, the Chair strategically leads the newly opened 112-bed free-standing behavioral health hospital on MetroHealth’s Cleveland Heights campus. The hospital supports behavioral health for adolescents, adult and geriatrics, in all areas of the continuum of care. Exciting components of this new, high-demand hospital include a dual diagnosis center for mental illness/addiction and private rooms for adult and geriatric psychiatry.  The Ideal CandidateThe Chair of Psychiatry will have strategic oversight of the expanding Department and must be a compelling leader and a recognized educator and/or investigator whose passion for the educational, clinical, and research missions energizes the faculty, staff, and learners in a culturally competent and culturally sensitive manner. The MetroHealth System is seeking a compelling leader and recognized educator and investigator to serve as the new Chair of the Department of Medicine.The Opportunity:The new Chair will provide leadership for the Department of Medicine and its clinical, teaching and research projects. In this context, the Chair reports to the Executive Vice President, Chief Physician Executive and Clinical Officer.The successful candidate will be charged with leading the Department of Medicine in excellence in patient care, education, research, and advocacy. The Chair will be responsible for providing academic leadership for the faculty, learners, and staff in the Department and for providing administrative support to ensure fulfillment of MetroHealth’s mission of serving patients regardless of their financial status, educating learners at all levels of medical education, and promoting innovative research. The Chair will be expected to be actively engaged in scholarly and educational activities at a level commensurate with the academic rank of Associate or Full Professor at CWRU. The Chair of Medicine will also be responsible for building upon the many key educational and investigative relationships between and among CWRU and regional affiliates. The Chair will champion and promote as well as sponsor faculty development while leveraging the existing strengths of an already strong Department. The Chair will be called on to provide leadership, creativity, and vision – creating a highly collaborative environment that promotes best practices and generates opportunities for the continued growth of the Department faculty and ultimately the clinical enterprise at MetroHealth. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to think proactively and creatively to improve performance by identifying key strategic opportunities, including potential opportunities to foster development between clinical and academic departments, as well as promoting extramural affiliations, including with universities, community organizations and other regional health care institutions.Qualifications:
  • Eligible for a license to practice medicine in the State of Ohio. 
  • Board certification in Medicine. 
  • At least 10 years of progressive management experience in the field of Medicine, preferably in a teaching institution, health center, and/or community hospital. 
  • Knowledge of budget management. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership. 
  • Demonstrated contribution to academic residency program leadership. 
  • Demonstrated track record of supporting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts. 
  • Demonstrated evidence of continuing professional self-development. 
  • Distinguished record of academic experience and research productivity. 
  • National recognition as evidenced by involvement in academic societies at a national level and track record of sustained scholarship. 
  • MD, MD/PhD, DO, or equivalent. 
  • Completion of an accredited Medical residency program.
