Division Chief, General Internal Medicine Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences Eastern Virginia Medical School at Old Dominion UniversityAMN Healthcare has been retained to lead a national search for a highly skilled and dynamic Division Chief, General Internal Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) of Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University. The OpportunityThis is an extraordinary opportunity to advance the Division of General Internal Medicine across all missions, broaden its impact on the community and the field, and build upon the national profile of the Department of Medicine after a historic merger which established the largest health sciences center in the Commonwealth of Virginia. On July 1, 2024, the R1 research institution of Old Dominion University and Eastern Virginia Medical School came together to form Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University.Ripe with opportunity to grow and expand clinical offerings, this role is ideal for an academic “builder”. The Division of General Internal Medicine currently consists of eight physician faculty and two advanced practice providers who practice outpatient, primary care. The Division is interested in developing further specialization and multi-disciplinary clinics, like the recently established Sentara-EVMS Comprehensive Sickle Cell Program which is led by a faculty member within this Division. As Division Chief of General Internal Medicine, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in recruiting, developing, and managing a team of exceptional faculty members while driving clinical excellence and fulfilling the Division’s educational mission. The successful candidate may also be selected to hold the honor and title of the Oscar E. Edwards Distinguished Professor of Internal Medicine, an Endowed position within the Department. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Medicine at EVMS, the Division Chief of General Internal Medicine will be an accomplished physician, administrator, and inspirational leader who is prepared to devote this phase of their career to the advancement of the faculty, trainees, and the division. The successful candidate should possess academic credentials that qualify for appointment as Associate or Full Professor, have previous academic leadership experience, possess a commitment to scholarship and research, as well as demonstrate the ability to lead at strategic, tactical, and administrative levels, including experience managing space and financial resources.Qualifications
  • MD, DO, or equivalent terminal medical degree
  • Current board certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine
  • Must possess, or be eligible for, an unrestricted Medical License in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Academic credentials that qualify for appointment as Associate or Full Professor
  • Previous leadership of clinical operations and/or building new clinical programs within an academic environment 
  • Experience leading QA / QI projects or initiatives highly desired
