University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in beautiful Galveston, Texas is searching for a passionate Director of Biosafety to join their organization!   The Position 
  • The Director of Biosafety will work with various departments and committees daily, ensuring the Institute-wide department remains in compliance with regulations.
  • Reporting to the AVP for Research Regulations & Compliance, this leader will oversee a team of eight.
  • This leader will plan, direct, and manage the biosafety programs of UTMB under the direction of senior management. They will also review and incorporates health and safety standards as promulgated by all regulating agencies.
  • By partnering with different lab directors and leaders, this Director will be tasked with expanding market presence. 
  • Ideal candidates will be proven leaders, with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and possess the ability to solve problems. 
Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in chemistry, microbiology, or related field required. Doctorate highly preferred.
  • Must possess a minimum of five years related experience including three years’ experience in management.
  • Experience working in a biocontainment facility (BSL3 or higher); and must be familiar with applicable guidelines for all laboratory and animal containment levels (A/BSL1-A/BSL4).
  • Experience specifically implementing select agent regulations (42 CFR Part 73, 9 CFR Part 121, 7 CFR Part 331).
  • Experience specifically implementing NIH Guidelines for Research Involving recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules.
