LD RN's care for women during labor and childbirth, monitoring the baby and the mother, coaching mothers and assisting doctors. They prepare women, and their families, for the stages of giving birth and help patients with breastfeeding after the baby is born. In addition to assisting women throughout labor and the birthing process, LD RN' s care for women who experience complications with their pregnancies and assist surgeons during cesarean deliveries. LD RN's can work in a variety of settings such as hospital delivery rooms, physician’s offices, birthing centers, and community clinics. L&D RN’s may be asked to float to Postpartum or Mother Baby due to census.Education/Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN): 4-Year Education 
  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN): 2-Year Education 
  • You must earn an ADN or BSN degree and pass the NCLEX to apply for a license as a RN. 
  • RN‘s can only work with an active state license.
  • NRP and AWHONN are often required
• Graduate of an approved/accredited nursing program either by a governmental authority,nursing board, or by a licensing authority that has jurisdiction over approval/accreditation ofnursing programs (Texas BON 217.1)• BSN Preferred• One (1) year of RN experience. Specialty areas may have increased experience requirementsas dictated by unit or standard of care.• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification,courses accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)• NRP certification from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) course through AWHONN within 6 months of hire.
