Unit Highlights: Level II Trauma/Stroke/Stemi Center Age Groups of Patients: Neonate, Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adults, and Geriatric Top 10 diagnosis/procedures: Sprains/strains, upper respiratory infections, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, open wounds of exremities (lacerations, etc.), nonspecific chest pain, skin infections, trauma, headache, cardiac/nerologic events. Any special procedure done on the unit? Airway, EVD, external/internal pacing, and chest tube management. Rapid infusion (Level 1) use. Hypothermic protocol. IO placement. Ekg capture. Spinal immobilization, c-collar placement, blood product administration. TPA Administration. Common Equipment: IV pumps, cardiac monitors, ETCO2 monitoring. Titrate Vasoactive Drips- epi, norepi, dopamine, dobutamine, sedation/ pain meds, cardizem, cardene, etc.

Job Summary The Staff Nurse (SN) II provides and coordinates emergency nursing care for patients for a designated time frame. Participates in patient/ family teaching and provides leadership in working cooperatively with members of the health care team to maintain standards of professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. One year recent (within the last 3 years) experience in the Emergency Department. Certifications: Current BLS, ACLS & PALS card required. Minimum Qualifications: 1) High School Diploma/GED. 2) Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program and completion of the current hours required by the BRN of RN student clinical experience or Graduate of registered nursing and either 2000 hours of RN experience in clinical area of specialty from a licensed acute care facility within three (3) years of graduation; or graduate of an accredited licensed vocational nursing program that includes clinical student experience in acute care and has worked 2000 hours as an licensed vocational nurse within the clinical area of specialty within three (3) years before graduation or currently enrolled in an accredited entry level MSN program and has completed pre-licensure requirements to practice nursing. 3) Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California. 4) Minimum of 6 months experience. See job duties for specific experience requirements for specialty units. 5) Demonstrated knowledge of the RN scope of practice. 6) Demonstrated commitment to service orientation (members, staff, providers). 7) Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills (in English). 8) Good interpersonal skills. 9) Also refer to Position Specifications outlined in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.

If the department is designated as a trauma site, the hours and expenses related to triage and treatment of trauma patients is included. However, the hours and expenses related to the administration and support of the Trauma program and it’s services (i.e. Trauma registry, trauma coordinators) should not be included here. Identifies outcomes for the patient or the patient?s situation. Collaborates with the team of patient, family, and healthcare providers in providing patient care in a safe, healing, humane, and caring environment. Provides learning opportunities for patients/family members and team members. Directly provides health information to patients, families, and treatment team. Participates in discharge planning in order to provide continuity of care. Delegates appropriately and coordinates duties of healthcare team members. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
