This nurse must understand the dynamics of a fast paced OR. Must be accountable to all elements of the role while delivering care to patients whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised during surgical or other invasive procedures. THE RNFA works in collaboration with surgeons and healthcare team members to facilitate optimal outcomes for patients undergoing surgical procedures. RN practicing as first assistants in surgery are functioning in an expanded perioperative nursing role. Provides developmentally appropriate patient care using the nursing process under the direct supervision of the surgeon and applies knowledge, skills and critical thinking necessary to assist in performing a safe operation. Develops an individualized nursing plan of care in response to specific patient needs within a defined scope of practice and AORN standards.

MCH is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital offering Medical, Surgical and Intensive Care; Obstetrics; Pediatrics; and Mental Health services. healthcare, a wide variety of outpatient services are available, including Pulmonary, Cardiac and Physical Rehabilitation; 24-hour Emergency Care; a fully equipped laboratory; and an extensive Radiology department. This is a small unit with desire to grow volumes and service lines. Currently expanding GI with need to provide a Saturday Elective every other weekend for which this contract will need to include. Call is rotated currently between 1 full time ST & 1 part time ST. Call covers Surgery & C-Sections with an estimated 10 days/month and negotiated with team with addition of Travel ST. Call starts at 1500-0700 weekdays and 7a-7a Saturday & Sunday. Actively seeking permanent STs so the call volume may decrease as employees are hired & oriented.

Age Group of Patients: Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric Top 10 Diagnosis/Procedures: cholecystectomy, appendectomy, thoracoscopy, total knee replacement, exploratory laparotomy, herniorrhaphy, total hip replacement, dilatation & curretage, foot incision & debridement, arterio-venous fistula placement Any special procedure done on the unit? No – most surgical services provided EXCEPT: no organ transplants Common Equipment: Standard OR equipment – 9 O.R.s; have anesthesia technician support and surgical aides All OR travelers must take call; 30 min. response time required.
