N preferred Minimum # Years Clinical Experience Required: 2 Minimum # Years Clinical Experience in Specialty Required: 1 preferred Certifications Required: BLS Certifications Preferred: ONS chemotherapy provider or chemotherapy experience Nurse ** Facility is no longer accepting candidates within a 50-mile radius. Do NOT submit candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the hospital. ALL RTO requests must be in the packet at the time of submission. Anything sent after, will not be approved** POSITION DESCRIPTION: Cancer Center needs an RN with at least 2 years of acute care (med/surg) experience. 12H Nights, 7p-7a- Oncology experience is preferred but not required. May work with a patient who is receiving chemotherapy but will not be the ones administering the chemotherapy. Every other weekend and 1 holiday required. Ratios: 1:3-4. Navy scrubs, Epic EMR. REQUIRED UPON SUBMISSION: Submission Packet must show # of beds, Trauma Level and EMR on their Work History or they will be dropped. BLS is required, must be in packet at time of submission. Must have active MD/Compact license in packet at time of submission, no temp licenses allowed. COVID vaccine required. Medical Declination accepted, Must have signed and authorized documentation from Physician in packet or submission will be dropped. UMMS does not accept religious COVID declinations. Manager to interview and offer. Patient Ratio by shift: 1:3-4 Circulate/Scrub as applicable: when needed Ancillary Assistance: CNA/ PCT: ? Y ? N #staff per shift: 4-5 Unit clerk/Secretary: ? Y ? Shift Hours: 12 hours Rotation Schedule: Not set Self-Scheduling Manager driven with self-schedule requests Weekend Requirements: every other Call Requirements: No Holiday Requirements: Yes must be available for 2 out of 3 major winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years) Patient Population (Diagnoses): hematological, malignancy, and oncology Age Range: Adult Special Equipment: (For example: IV Pumps: Type; Invasive Monitoring; Monitors: Type; ECMO; Ventilators: Type; ABG: Type) Vein finders, vital signs machine, glucometer, SCDs, bladder scanner, telemetry, wound vacs, IV pumps, pulse oximeters, chest tubes, tube feeding pumps (Kangaroo), nebulizers, and oxygen delivery devices including CPAP and BiPAP. Respiratory available 24/7 for support ? Y ? N Anesthesia available 24/7 for support ? Y ? N Who manages ventilators: none on unit Unit Specific Procedures and Protocols: (For example: Drips; Infusions; Phlebotomy; Starting IVs; EKGs; Transports; Weaning; Nebulizer to Inhaler; Starting IVs, performing venipuncture, Performing EKGs; Discontinuing sheaths) management of chemotherapy and side effects – travelers are not expected to administer chemo but they are expected to be able to monitor for side effects and treat as needed. Additional Unit Specific Information: Telemetry managed by RN; leukemia patients are 70% of our population, wide variety of rapidly changing acuity, Leukemia Pts often have special needs in terms of the number of blood products, antibiotics, and balancing everything can be challenging. While this unit is not IMC, we have many patients who border on IMC level care rather than acute care. We bring innovation, discovery and research to the care we provide. At the same time, we are educating the state’s future physicians and health care professionals through our partnership with the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the UM Schools of Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work and Dentistry in Baltimore.
