Kentucky Nursing License Renewal Requirements

Meeting Criteria and Tracking Your License Status

If you are eligible for a Kentucky board of nursing license renewal, you will need to meet the criteria outlined by the Board. This will include submitting a renewal application, ensuring your license has not lapsed, and submitting proof of continuing competency requirements.

It’s also important to note that you can track the status of your application online! Follow the status of your application (except renewal applications), from the time submitted to KBN through licensure.

Is Kentucky a Compact Nursing State?

Understanding Kentucky's Nursing Compact Status

Kentucky is part of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) and with the NLC, a registered nurse is permitted to hold one license in his or her home state (primary state of residency) and to practice in other compact states (referred to as remote states)--without requiring any additional licenses.

If you hold a single-state license, you will need to convert it to a multi-state license.
