How to Get Your Texas Nursing License

The Texas nursing license process can be complex and long. Below are a few helpful tips to keep in mind: 

  • To apply for your Texas nurse license via examination, individuals must graduate from an approved school of nursing, pass the Texas nursing jurisprudence examination before passing the NCLEX, and complete a criminal background check.
  • To apply for your Texas nursing license via endorsement, you must have graduated from an approved nursing program, passed the required U.S. exam and have either work in nursing or taken the NCLEX exam.

Texas Nursing License Renewal

Before you begin the Texas nursing license renewal process, here are a few things to keep in mind. 

  • The easiest way to renew your Texas nurse license is online. In order to do so, you’ll need your license number and the last four digits of your social security number. Be aware that there is a fee.
  • You cannot complete the Texas nursing license renewal process if you haven’t met the mandatory CNE requirements; if your primary state of residence is a compact state other than Texas; or if your current license in delinquent or inactive.

Texas Nursing License Verification

In-state RNs can perform the Texas nursing license verification process online here. You will need your license number, last four digits of SSN, as well as your first and last name. If you’re an out-of-state RN applying for a Texas nurse license endorsement, you can go to Nursys.com.
